An Airbus A 330 with 228 people aboard that had departed from Brazil, has disappeared from the radar track on its way to France, A spokesman for the Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle airport, were the plane should have landed, said "there was no hope" for the 216 passengers and 12 crew members of flight AF 447.
The plane, which covered the flight AF447 from Rio de Janeiro to Paris, was expected to land at Roissy-Charles de Gaulle (Paris) at 11:15 local time (9.15 GMT), but the French authorities do not know where the plane might have disappeared on its way across the Atlantic, because it was not more under Brazil's radar coverage, and not yet in contact with European controls.
The Airbus A 330 took off from Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) at 19.00 local time (22:00 GMT) and headed to Paris. The Brazilian authorities are already searching for the plane around the Fernando de Noronha archipelago (300 kilometers from Brazil northeast coast), as the flight disappeared from radar about 30 minutes after taking off, around 22:30 GMT.
But according to Air France last report, an automated message indicating a failure of electrical system was received at 2:14 (GMT), nearly 4 hours later, indicating that the plane may have crashed in the middle of the Atlantic, far from any coast, while going through a thunderstorm with strong turbulence.
The French government has created a crisis cabinet and mobilized all possible means to investigate what happened to the flight and to search the plane. French president Nicolas Sarkozy asked the US to help locating the wreckage with their satellite system.
