Air France Crash Update: Metal Debris Belong To Missing Flight

Source :

A spokesman for the French Army's General Staff confirmed that the metal pieces and aircraft seats found yesterday by the Brazil Air Force belong to the Air France plane that disappeared on Monday.

Brazil Air Force found yesterday floating pieces of fuselage, stains of kerosene, a lifejacket and aircraft seats some 400 miles from the island of Fernando de Noronha.

The confirmation came from Paris after a French military aircraft have flown in the last few hours over the area in which the Brazilian Army has found what appear to be fragments of the Airbus A330, which covered the Rio de Janeiro to Paris AF447 flight.

All the search efforts are now concentrating on identifying the exact location in which the Airbus may have fallen into the sea in order to find the "black box", the only way to determine the cause of the crash.

A French Navy ship carrying the Nautile (a manned submarine designed for observing and operating at great depths° as well as four submarines are heading to the search area, in a race for the black box that is designed to emit a localisation signal for 30 days after the crash. If not recovered within this period, it will be definitely lost, with no hope to know the real cause of the accident anymore.

The depth of the ocean in this area can reach 4000 meters (13,123 feet) or more. Added to violent currents and very bad meteorological conditions, it make the recovery of the flight recorders a very complicated and almost impossible mission.
