One of the all-time greats in women's tennis, Serena Williams, claimed her 10th Grand Slam title and fourth Australian Open title on Saturday with victory over Dinara Safina.
It was a completely one-sided affair, with the 27-year old American completely dominating her opponent, beating the Russian no.1 in straight sets, 6-0 6-3.
Going into the final, Safina said that her experience of being in the final of the French Open last season—a game in which she lost 6-4 6-3 to Serbia's Ana Ivanovic—had her feeling more prepared for this one.
However, it was evident early on that did not appear to be the case, as the third seed looked flat from the start and struggled with her serve.
A string of poor errors, combined with amazing hard hitting from Williams, meant the Russian was broken in the second, fourth and sixth games of the opening set, slumping to an unusual 6-0 defeat in the first set. Quite a surprise for the usually feisty Safina.
