Today At noon (Est Cost Time), the Microsoft Download Center will make available for download the "gold" version of Internet Explorer 8. Very proud of its new version, Microsoft asserts its superiority by comparing its performance with its major competitors such as Mozilla Firefox, Safari and Google Chrome.

That's what Dean Hachamovitch, general manager of the Internet Explorer division announced yesterday at the MIX09 Web Design and Development Conference held at the Venetian (Las Vegas). He was so excited that he had trouble finding the right tone during his preliminary speach.

New functionalities...already existing in competitors browsers !

Microsoft is catching up by adding some features already present in its rivals Firefox and Google Chrome. This applies to the smart address bar in particular. But the main improvements are based on the Webslices feature, kind of RSS feeds to notify of new publications on a website without displaying the entire contents. There are also what the publisher called Accelerators. They allow quick access to new features by right-clicking on an element.

According to Microsoft, the main improvements, comparing to its competitors, are about safety and speed.

Supported by a survey from the NSS Lab, a independent laboratory specialized in browsers security, the editor wants to prove that its browser performs at least twice better than others against malwares.

In terms of speed, Microsoft provides its own test results to prove the superiority of IE8 over its competitors (stange when you know that the previous tests on the IE8 beta version ranked it in the last position). The browser also requires 30% less memory than its predecessor and will work with Windows Vista and XP.
