Twitter Down Due To Denial Of Service Attack

Source : https://dofollownet.com

Bad day to test a Twitter application: I was testing the tweetable plugin for WordPress when I started receiving odd error messages like:

Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'Exception' with message 'String could not be parsed as XML

I first thought of a bug in the WP plugin until I tried to login into my Twitter account and got a server down error message.

Then I found the following post on the Twitter status page:

Ongoing denial-of-service attack 1 hour ago

We are defending against a denial-of-service attack, and will update status again shortly.

Update: the site is back up, but we are continuing to defend against and recover from this attack.

Site is down 2 hours ago

We are determining the cause and will provide an update shortly.

Update: we are defending against a denial-of-service attack.

Looks like Twitter is being the target of a Denial Of Service attack and was not well prepared to face this kind of attack. That's worrisome for a service that intends to be the first online service to reach 1 billion customers.
